Preterito Pluscuamperfecto - Spanish Verbs

The Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto is used to express actions about the past. There are two possible forms for each person for the pretérito pluscuamperfecto of the subjunctive mood once conjugated. When using this tense you will only use one or the other form, not both. From the academic point of view, your teacher might expect both forms conjugated. Ask your teacher


Regular Spanish Verbs

To conjugate the Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto of the Subjunctive Mood we need to take the auxiliary verb "haber" (have) conjugated in the Pretérito Imperfecto of the subjunctive mood and add the past participle of another verb. To form the past participle of the regular verbs we remove the endings of the infinitive forms and we replace them with the endings corresponding to the past participle for each group.

 

The auxiliary verb "haber" can take on two forms with the pretérito Imperfecto of the Subjunctive Mood.

 

Form 1 for all groups -ar, -er, -ir. Hubiera Hubieras Hubiera Hubiéramos Hubierais Hubieran

 

Form 2 for all groups -ar, -er, -ir. hubiese hubieses hubiese hubiésemos hubieseis hubiesen

So the complete conjugated form for the verb "juntar" will be:

Hubiera o hubiese juntado

Hubieras o hubieses juntado

Hubiera o hubiese juntado

Hubiéramos o hubiésemos juntado

Hubierais o hubieseis juntado

Hubieran o hubiesen juntado

 

TIP: Most Spanish verbs fall under the -ar group.

 

Irregular Spanish Verbs

The irregular verbs are conjugated in the same way as the regular verbs. Remember there can be spelling changes in the stem of the verb.

 

Groups Past Participle
-ar -ado
-er -ido
-ir -ido

El Preterito Pluscuamperfecto - Verbos Espanoles

El Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto del modo Subjuntivo se utiliza para expresar acciones sobre el pasado. Hay dos formas posibles para cada persona para el pretérito pluscuamperfecto del modo subjuntivo una vez conjugado. Cuando utilizamos este tiempo sólo usamos una de las dos posibles formas pero no las dos a la vez. Desde el punto de vista académico, su profesor puede que quiera las dos formas conjugadas. Pregúntele a su profesor.

Verbos Regulares

Para conjugar el Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto del Modo Subjuntivo necesitamos coger el verbo auxiliar "haber" (to have) conjugado en el Pretérito Imperfecto del Modo Subjuntivo y añadirle el participio de pasado de otro verbo. Para formar el participio de pasado de los verbos regulares quitamos las terminaciones de las formas de infinitivo y las sustituimos por las terminaciones correspondientes a los participios de pasado de cada grupo.

 

El verbo auxiliar "haber" puede tener dos formas en el pretérito imperfecto del modo subjuntivo.

 

Forma 1 para todos los grupos -ar, -er, -ir. Hubiera Hubieras Hubiera Hubiéramos Hubierais Hubieran

 

Forma 2 para todos los grupos -ar, -er, -ir. hubiese hubieses hubiese hubiésemos hubieseis hubiesen

 

De esta manera, la forma completa conjugada del verbo "juntar" será:

Hubiera o hubiese juntado

Hubieras o hubieses juntado

Hubiera o hubiese juntado

Hubiéramos o hubiésemos juntado

Hubierais o hubieseis juntado

Hubieran o hubiesen juntado

 

Nota: La mayoría de los verbos españoles pertenecen al grupo terminado en -ar.

 

Verbos Irregulares

Los verbos irregulares se conjugan de la misma manera que los verbos regulares. Recuerde que pueden haber cambios ortográficos en la raíz del verbo.
