Ser = to be

We use the verb "ser" for descriptions. It can be used to describe a situation, a place or a person.
Eg:
La fiesta es muy divertida (the party is very entertaining).
Mary es guapa y además es muy inteligente. (Mary is pretty and besides she is very intelligent).
Este hotel es muy moderno y bonito (this hotel is very modern and beautiful).

The verbs "ser" is also used to talk about professions.
Eg:
Juan es arquitecto. (Juan is an architect).

It is also used to ask for and give the time.
Eg:
¿Qué hora es? Son las dos y media.

It is also used to talk about your relation with another person.
Eg:
Somos marido y mujer. (we are husband and wife).

To talk about personalities.
Eg:
¿Cómo es tu hermana? Es bastante seria, pero puede ser muy divertida. (What is your sister like? She is quite serious, but she can be very funny).

And "ser" is also used to talk about nationalities.
Eg:
Soy española. (I am spanish)

To form the negative of all Spanish verbs, you simply place the word "no" in front of the verb.
Eg:
Tengo = I have, No tengo = I do not have.
